Details

The Primitivo grapes are hand-harvested from vineyards trained in the traditional Alberello Pugliese system, low bush vines that embody the most authentic Mediterranean heritage and yield wines of remarkable concentration and expressive depth. From the Duero comes the Tempranillo, cultivated on the Spanish highlands, where intense sunlight and marked diurnal temperature variations shape grapes of outstanding balance, freshness, and aromatic precision. Yields are deliberately kept low, at approximately 800 grams per vine, in favor of concentration, depth, and expressive harmony. Vinification takes place separately, respecting the identity of each variety, before the final blending that gives life to the unique equilibrium of Loro Due.
The wine is aged for twenty-four months in fine-grain French oak barriques, where structure and aromas reach their full harmony. This is followed by an additional year of bottle ageing, which refines the tannins and enhances depth and elegance.
In the glass, it shows a deep, luminous ruby color, crossed by subtle purple highlights that reflect its vibrant energy.
The nose is intense and layered, opening with marasca cherry in spirit, ripe plum, and wild blackberry, followed by elegant nuances of dark cocoa, dried blond tobacco, and black pepper. With aeration, notes of cedarwood, sandalwood, and licorice emerge, accompanied by hints of myrtle and Mediterranean scrub, a distinctive signature of its Apulian identity. On the palate, it is broad, silky, and profound: the generous softness of Primitivo embraces the mineral tension of Tempranillo in a rare and natural balance. The mouthfeel is compact and refined, supported by polished yet vibrant tannins, with a progression that alternates power and freshness. The finish is exceptionally long, spicy, and balsamic, with echoes of dark fruit, cocoa, incense, and resin, leaving the palate in a state of quiet contemplation.
Loro Due excels alongside a deep, textural cuisine, where slow cooking and flavor concentration meet the art of balance. It pairs elegantly with braised or roasted red meats, such as beef cheek braised in red wine, herb-roasted lamb, or Iberian pork rack. It is equally remarkable with delicate game, mushroom or black truffle risottos, and well-aged cheeses of strong character, such as Buffalo Blue cheese or cave-aged Pecorino. This is a wine to be enjoyed slowly, in moments when time stretches and conversation becomes intimate and thoughtful. Loro Due expresses its full complexity when served with care and respect for time. Serve at a temperature of 16–18 °C (61–64 °F), preferably after light aeration, to allow the wine to gradually open and reveal aromatic depth and balance. Use a large-bowled glass for structured red wines, with generous volume and a slightly narrowed rim, ideal for promoting oxygenation and focusing the wine’s spicy, balsamic, and profound notes. Decanting for approximately 60–90 minutes is recommended, especially in the early years of the wine’s life, to harmonize the tannic structure and enhance aromatic complexity.
