We are glad to communicate that our 80 Vecchie Vigne Primitivo di Manduria Doc 2008 wine has been rated with the Silver Medal in the last international wine competition of ‘Premium Select Wine Challenge 2012’ run by “selection”, one of Germany’s leading wine and food titles and it describes a world of consumption and experience centred on wine, as well as covering other luxury themes such as fine drinks and tobacco, travel, good hotels and gastronomy. In its treatment of the products being presented, selection focuses on reliability, outstanding quality and good value for money. As a result, selection has established itself as the customer magazine of top end specialist shops and good restaurants and hotels.

We’ve had such a wonderful year full of new and exciting happenings here at the winery. We met great people, won several prizes and got positive reviews. All things that gives a meaning to our daily work both in the vineyard and in the cellar. We want to say thank you to all of our friends who help make the CignoMoro experience what it is.

Super sunny weather and  temperatures over 40° C in the last month have pushed the harvest 20 days earlier this year. With all this sun we did gain the concentration of the flavours, which contributes to our taste-distinction, through lower volumes of fruit per vine.

We started with the Chardonnay and Fiano Minutolo on August and the team harvested the Primitivo grapes  in the early hours of the last couple of weeks. Negroamaro will be the last as usual, we did regular testing of the acidity and sugar levels in our grapes in order to establish which is the perfect harvest date, and it seems the time has come. The scent of the new must is all around the winery… and the new vintage quality will be excellent, our winemaker says.

One of the attractions of the Grand Tasting at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City is the opportunity to sample under the same roof the best wines from Italy that creates a platform for extraordinary wine exploration.

The other plus is that this event gave me a chance to spend time speaking with other producers and other parties involved in it, as they prepare and unveil the latest trends in wine. Hundreds of wine connoisseurs, journalists and premier industry professionals stopped by to taste our wines,

From January 23-27th, New York’s Italian wine experts and trade authorities will gather at the 3rd annual VINO 2011 to explore, taste, and consider the future of America’s favorite wine region at the largest annual Italian wine symposium in the United States.
All activities scheduled for the 2011 edition, will take place once again in New York City; the dates are January 23rd. to the 27th.

The event, national in scope, will strive to serve US wine experts by introducing them to an interesting mix of Italy’s 200 best producers from all the regions, and CignoMoro will be there, representing Apulia.

Hard to believe the year is almost over and it’s moment to reflect upon the past year, and to give thanks. We have some thoughts on changes we will be making for next year but I will save that for another time.
